The Urban Yarns store has been an institution to visit in Point Grey Village in Vancouver for over 20 years, and we also ship to customers throughout Canada and the United States. We specialize in mid to high end yarns & accessories and a spectacular customer experience, and it is our exceptional team of staff that makes that happen.

Positions:

We are no longer accepting applications for Summer 2024 staff. We will resume accepting applications for Fall/Permanent part-time and full-time staff (September start with August training if available) in early August, but here are the details in the meantime:

Our Fall/Winter store open hours are as follows, and staff start as early as half an hour before the store opens:
Mondays 10:00am-6:00pm
Tuesdays 10:00am-6:00pm
Wednesdays 10:00am-6:00pm
Thursdays 10:00am-6:00pm
Fridays 10:00am-6:00pm
Saturdays 10:00am-6:00pm
Sundays 12:00-5:00pm

In your application, please list ALL of your available days and hours, and whether you would ideally like to work all of them or a maximum number of days or hours per week.

Wage: $17.40/hour gross

Duties include retail sales and assistance to in-store customers, processing phone and online orders, shipping online orders to customers, receiving product shipments, and general store upkeep and cleanliness.

Requirements:
- Minimum 1 full year of previous retail sales experience, including use of a computerized inventory and sales system
- Advanced knitting knowledge & experience
- Ability to prioritize friendly customer care while concurrently performing inventory management tasks with efficiency and accuracy
- Proficient and speedy use of Ravelry, Google, and email
- Ability to stand for the duration of each shift, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 30 lbs
- Fluent spoken and written English

Extra Credit:
- Knowledge & experience in other fibre arts such as crochet, spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting, pattern design
- Experience teaching knitting, crochet or other fibre arts in a paid, professional setting
- Conversational level of another language, especially Cantonese, Mandarin or French
