Employment Opportunities

updated August 30, 2017

Urban Yarns has been an institution in Point Grey Village in Vancouver for over 12 years, and our second location was part of the Edgemont Village scene in North Vancouver for 9 years until a move to a gorgeous bigger space in Central Lonsdale last year. You could even say we have a third store in our rapidly growing online sales. We specialize in mid to high end yarns & accessories and a spectacular customer experience, and we are looking to add to the team of staff that makes that happen.

Positions:

We are currently seeking part-time and full-time sales staff, both seasonal (September through January) and long-term/permanent. Other positions include part-time office & inventory assistance, and part-time and full-time store management, so let us know your whole skill set! Please state your desired position and location in your application.

Please note that we are unable to consider candidates who will be unavailable for any part of December 15th, 2017 through January 5th, 2018 (exempting statutory holidays Dec. 25th & Jan. 31st), as this is our “all hands on deck” time of year!

Staff Benefits:
- competitive wages that increase with years of service
- extended medical & dental plan included for all full-time long-term/permanent employees
- generous staff discount, continuing education reimbursement, store sample program, and more
- challenging and rewarding work with the best darn customers out there, and the best product, yarn!

Requirements:
- minimum 1 full year of previous retail sales experience, including use of a computerized inventory and sales system
- advanced knitting knowledge & experience and at least elementary knowledge of crochet
- ability to prioritize friendly customer care while concurrently performing inventory tasks with speed, efficiency and accuracy
- proficiency in all features of Ravelry, Google, email, and Microsoft Office programs
- ability to stand for the duration of each shift, climb stairs and ladders as needed, and lift up to 30 lbs
- fluent spoken and written English

Extra Credit:
- knowledge & experience in other fibre arts such as spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting, or pattern design
- experience teaching knitting, crochet or the other fibre arts listed above in a paid, professional setting
- conversational level of another language, especially Cantonese, Mandarin or French

Apply:
- in person at either store or by email to Lindsay at knitting@urbanyarns.com with “Application: Firstname Lastname” as the subject line. No phone calls please.
- attach photos of the 3 completed knitting/crochet projects you are most proud of, or include your Ravelry and/or Instagram username if you have projects posted you’d like us to see
- include your specific availability and your desired position and store location
- applications will be accepted from August 30th, 2017 until positions are filled, so get yours in early!
