Navia Deluxe Tradition (13st)

  • Image 1

Product Description

Navia Deluxe Tradition consists of 100% Faroese wool. A twisted single ply, Deluxe is made from specifically selected softer fibers so the end result is a yarn that has all of the wonderful qualities of Faroese wool with a softer hand.

For the rustic version descendent of the old-style yarns used in the Faroe Islands for knitting fisherman's sweaters, see Navia Tradition. They can be used interchangeably in knitting patterns with each other and with Istex Alafosslopi, but only if you also change your needle size accordingly and do a gauge swatch. Navia Deluxe Tradition knits to approx. 13 stitches per 4" on a 5-6mm (US 8-10) needle, while Navia Tradition knits to approx. 14 stitches per 4" on a 7-9mm (US 10.5-13) needle and Istex Alafosslopi knits to approx. 13 stitches per 4" on a 6.5mm (US 10) needle.

Urban Yarns carries all of the Navia pattern books that have English translations. We are listing them on our web store right this moment - watch this space for links! This is a relatively new yarn so there are currently few English digital pattern PDFs available on Ravelry that specifically call for Navia Deluxe Tradition or Tradition, but we have collected our favourite Ravelry patterns calling for Istex Alaffosslopi.

This wool is non-superwash, thus retaining the fragrant and water-resistant lanolin and the anti-microbial properties and natural shape-memory of the fibre. Garments made from this yarn will not require washing except for spills and before seasonal storage; a simple airing-out will refresh it between wearings.
