BEGINNER KNITTING

Have fun learning the basics of knitting. This is a techniques based class where you will learn to cast on/off, knit and purl for the first time, or if you have learnt years ago but need a refresher this is the class for you. It is always encouraged to start a simple and easy project in this class that will help solidify the techniques in practice and teaches pattern reading skills.

BEGINNER CROCHET

Learn the basics of crochet with stitches such as the slip stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet double crochet, and the triple crochet, increasing and decreasing, and crocheting in the round. You will also learn chaining and working back and forth in rows from a foundation chain. If time allows, basic pattern reading skills will be taught. Most will have time to start some sort of beginner project, or you can make swatches and turn them into a scarf in the end.
Supply requirements: crochet hook 5mm; DK weight yarn (wool or acrylic is best, opposed to cotton or novelty yarn.

BEGINNER LACE SHAWL

In this class you will learn to knit a full-size triangular shawl, using either a lace weight or fingering weight yarn.  The class is designed for adventurous beginners who have made a few garments are are looking for an introduction to lace knitting.  You must be able to knit and purl and be familiar with decreasing techniques, such as knit 2 together.  In making the triangular shawl, you will learn to:

Have you always wanted to knit a pair of socks? Well now's your chance.  We will be discussing yarn choices, fitting techniques, pattern sources and unlocking the mystery of the heel turn all while knitting a Basic Ribbed Sock.  Participants should be comfortable with knitting in the round with DPN's, 2 circulars or Magic Loop.

FINISHING TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP 
(With Donna LeClair)
In this set of two, 2-hr workshops, learn how to join seams using mattress stitch, 3-needle cast off, and grafting; pick up stitches around necklines and other edges; and block your work for professional-looking finished garments.  You may bring in an unfinished garment to work on during the workshops and we will also be working on small, kinitted samples. This is a chance to put your tension squares into good use!
Supply requirements: Darning needle & yarn; Two knitted squares at least 10cm square; knitting needles of appropriate size for your pieces or squares

CUSTOMIZED TOP-DOWN PULLOVER
(With Donna LeClair)
In this set of two, 2-hr workshops, you will learn the basixs of top-down knitting.  Everyone who tries it, loves knitting from the tiop down, as it minimizes the amount of sewing up and finishing in the end.  We will use Jane Richmond's Classic Pulloever as the bases for this workshop. We love this pattern because it is so well laid out to allow for customizing for the perfect fit.  Participants will receive a copy of their choice of the Adult's or Child's pullover pattern.
Supply requirements: Aran weight yarn (a yarn that will give you a tension of 18 sts per 10cm); circular needles (40cm, 60cm, and/or 80cm, as required for the size of pullover you wish to make) and a set of DON or a second circular needles in the size required to obtain 18 st gauge; circular and DPN (or second circular) needles in size smaller than the size required to give 18sts gauge; stitch markers; darning needle and waste yarn
