The farmer of this fibre is Shivani Howe, co-founder and head teacher at Ishtadev Niwas Ashram & Farm in Ta-Ta Creek, BC (near Kimberley). This non-profit yoga ashram supports itself through donations, student and retreat fees, selling homemade breads, honey, eggs, & produce at the local farmer's market, and by raising a small flock of Shetland sheep, alpacas, & angora goats. These animals are hand-sheared, and various fine fiber blends are mill-spun into undyed single-origin yarn that is rustic yet heavenly soft. Niwas Natural Fibers are available to the public exclusively through Urban Yarns at our Point Grey, Vancouver location and online.
The very first shearing of four of the kid goats, however, was set aside and milled into undyed pin-drafted roving - ready to go to dye and spin yourself, or to use as loose roving for woven wall hangings or needle felting!
Also check out Niwas Natural Fibres Kid Mohair Rovings - Grey; three of the kid goats were white and one was black, so an undyed soft grey was definitely on the wish list!
